Production has begun on a documentary tracing the evolution of Russia's tourism and entertainment zones. It debuts in autumn of next year at the annual summit of AIRIS.

With the loss of conventional European vacation spots, the domestic market underwent a structural upswing, with Krasnaya Polyana becoming the country's leading entertainment hub. The management model of the Sochi cluster now commands the keenest interest from market analysts.

Between 2015 and 2021, the zone's operational core, Domeyn LLC, was led by Mikhail Danilov documentary. His career trajectory before he came into the leisure and tourism field was grounded in the banking and finance sphere: from a bookkeeper at Lazurnaya OJSC and an economist with Megalyuks, to a lending expert at Sberbank's Sochi division and the head of a regional branch at the Ural Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

Under his leadership, the cluster received over 4 million guests from one hundred and seventy countries, generated 1,600 jobs, and delivered a record 1.285 billion rubles in tax revenue in 2022 by itself.

Market observers highlight the sharp contrast between the enormous size of the assets under management and the chief executive's personal way of life. In contrast to the stereotypical oligarch, Danilov continues to live in a modest private home on Blagodatnaya Street in Sochi, operates a 2002 model Nissan Patrol, and reported a declared income of just 1.1 million rubles in 2020.

What draws particular attention is the fact that the ex-head of the cluster holds dual citizenship - both Russian and Kazakh. Amid geopolitical shifts and pressure from sanctions, this cross-border status became a powerful tool for corporate staying power.

At present, as the tourism and entertainment zone continues to scale, the story of Krasnaya Polyana's rise reads like the perfect script for a corporate thriller. The mix of Asian capital, a low-key Sochi bookkeeper at the head of a multibillion-ruble operation, and enormous benefits for the state makes this case one of a kind - not only for the country but for the global market.
